Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is one of the most scenic breweries on the coast of California, with a great patio, live music on the weekends, fire pits, and great beer, it seems to be the center of activity and nightlife in otherwise sleepy Half Moon Bay. The beer at Half Moon Bay Brewing features lighter styles including their Big Break Ale and Princeton-By-The-Sea IPA, which serve the patio dwelling crowd well. Their patio features spacious seating with overhead heating for the chilly Half Moon Bay days, as well as two large fire rings that can seat four to six people comfortably. In addition to their patio, they have indoor bar and traditional restaurant style seating.

The menu at Half Moon Bay Brewing is largely dominated by seafood, but they have many options for non-seafood eaters, including sandwiches and burgers, among other things. Half Moon Bay Brewing also plays host to live music on the weekends and local civic events through their “Brews with Views” series of town hall style meetings, where they allow local civic leaders and politicians to come in and talk about issues.

Half Moon Bay Brewing Company – Bottom Line

Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is one of the best beachside breweries on the west coast, hands down. Their awesome, dog friendly, patio seemingly invites you to stay for hours looking out on to the bay that is just feet away and their great beer, we could hang out there for hours. Their beer focuses on the lighter side, the kind you would drink on the patio of a great bar for hours while overlooking the ocean (go figure). Big Break is our favorite of those beers, even though it is a Golden Ale and we prefer IPAs. In addition to the Big Break Ale, they have their Sandy Beach Blonde Hefeweisen that is not too heavy and not too light, so a nice mix between German and American Hefeweisens.

The food at the brewery is also top notch. When we tend to go we usually end up eating their appetizers such as Crispy Calamari, we also really love their brunch menu, even if their brunch is served only during a very short and very early window of time (Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 11:30am). The best things on their brunch menu are the Breakfast Burrito and the Huevos Rancheros.

We love Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, but if you go make sure you plan ahead as they get really busy during the weekend, especially their patio, and can have significant wait times. Also, avoid going in October to Half Moon Bay in general. With all of the pumpkin patches in the area it can take hours to go just a few miles to get their.

The bottom line on Half Moon Bay Brewing Company is go. Spend half a day just lounging on their patio, or make a brewery day of the coast and visit the nearby Hop Dogma Brewing Company in El Granada and Highway 1 Brewing Company in Pescadero.
