Since Summer is over, and I am already missing it, I have chosen California Sunshine Rye IPA from Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company as this week’s Beer Pick of the Week. California Sunshine is a great session beer, with the right amount of hoppy-ness, that even people that usually do not prefer IPAs will be able to enjoy it. The beer starts crisp and finishes smoothly, without the expected bitterness in the aftertaste that is usually associated with an IPA. This beer really does feel like California sunshine in a bottle.
California Sunshine is one of Devil’s Canyon’s signature beers that you can often find on tap or in bottles in the San Francisco Bay Area, but I have heard that people in other areas are also starting to see California Sunshine pop up in grocery and liquor stores that have larger selections of craft beer. Personally, I prefer drinking the beer on draft, versus from a bottle, and luckily Devil’s Canyon gives me the opportunity to get it fresh, since they are practically in my backyard here in San Carlos, and they open the brewery up most Fridays for growler fills and the last friday of each month they have any open house.
If you are not as lucky as I am to have such a great brewery blocks away from your home, you should ask and look for California Sunshine when you can. The beer is often sold in 22oz bottles, but is also available in pint can four packs at some locations.
