Tied House Brewery

Tied House Brewery LogoTied House Brewery is the oldest brewery in the south bay, having opened in 1987, it has helped spawn the growth of many other local craft breweries. The space that Tied house occupies is a sprawling facility with high warehouse ceilings, and a long bar the stretches nearly the entire length of the restaurant. The restaurant itself has an indoor beer garden feel and features a long, narrow, shaded patio on the outside.

In addition to their house beers on tap, you will also find Tied House’s production beers on tap, which are sold under the Coastal Fog and Hermitage Brewing Company brands. Their house beers run the gamut of the beer spectrum, starting with the Alpine Gold and ending with the Oatmeal Stout. Tied House also has an extensive food menu which includes normal pub faire, such as burgers and their house garlic fries.

Tied House Brewery – Bottom Line

Tied House is one of our favorite breweries in the bay area, and we try and stop in whenever we are in the area for a pint and a bite to eat. The look, feel, & vibe of Tied House really reminds us of Four Peaks Brewing in Tempe, Arizona. Our favorite times to go to Tied House is mid-day on Saturdays and Sundays, other times the brewery can be pretty busy, especially during happy hour when the place fills up with employees from the many nearby tech companies.

Their food is top notch. We tend to gravitate towards their burgers, but their VooDoo Chicken Sandwich is killer. As for beer we really like their Alpine Gold and Villa Street Pale Ale. The Alpine Gold is light drinking and is fantastic to enjoy on Tied House’s small, but comfortable patio, while the Pale Ale is a good all-around beer that has a good level of hopiness to it, but is balanced with a clean malt finish. Growlers and Kegs are available if you are looking to take one of their brews home with you. We prefer the kegs, as they are some of the least expensive kegs in the bay area, a 5-gallon keg can be had for only $50 (and hopefully they don’t raise the prices now that we said this).

The bottom line on Tied House Brewery, is that you should go. Get the House Burger, some garlic fries, a Villa Street Pale Ale, and hang out for a bit.
